Red glass is extrremely difficult, unreliable, petulant and also gorgeous. It could be made using lead, gold, copper or any arcane combination that worked. None of them were especially healthy but they certainly made a beautiful and cherished glass.
Red beads are often not easy to find, provenance is difficult but they are indeed out there in the world. Often, due to the colouring agents, age of the bead, how they were found and the conditions they experienced over thousands of years, they can appear as anything but red, so they often are not included accurately in the canon of beads.
These little melon beads measure approximately 15mm in diameter with a 2.2mm hole, are a lustrous red with depth and a shine not commonly found in red glass.
